Description
Do you speak English or do you speak American? This class will explore the linguistic history of English in America and compare the regional, ethnic, and social class dialects in the country. We will also look at how the vocabularies in the languages of sports, love, war, politics, and the internet have permeated Standard English. As a rapidly changing language, we will also look ahead to see where American English is headed.
