Description

What is the impact of migration on the lives of women? Is the experience of migration different for women and men? What is the impact of intersections of gender, race, class, ethnicity, education, and sexual orientation on the experience of migration for women? We will explore immigrant women stories to get a glimpse of their experiences. Most of us have immigrant ancestors and many of us have heard tales about those ancestors.

When societal transformations occur or when the person moves to a different cultural context, the acceptable accounts are also transformed. A new cultural context may modify those narratives producing new critical insights and life transformations. In this course we aim to discover the voices of women immigrants/refugees from a variety of cultural backgrounds to understand the diversity or commonality of the forces that have produced those voices and/or silenced them.
