Description

The evolutionary history of viruses is a fascinating topic due to the enormous diversity among them. Biologists have struggled with how to classify these entities and how to relate them to the conventional tree of life. They appear to represent genetic elements that have the ability to move between cells. They quite possible represent previously free-living organisms that became parasites or may be the precursors of life as we know it.his class will answer the questions: What is a virus?  Are viruses living organisms?  Where did they come from?  How do viruses work?  Why can’t we control them?
