Description

(This is a discussion-based program with brief advance reading.)

In past generations, American historians looked to the colonial era to search for the origins of liberty in the United States. Today, scholars focus just as much on the colonies to explore the history of America’s remarkable cultural diversity and different forms of forced labor, particularly slavery.

Prior to the session, we will email you two essays that highlight different aspects of this diversity.   Dr. Brunsman will lead a discussion about the ideas expressed in the readings. The goal will be to get the group involved in asking and exploring questions, rather than coming to a conclusion or reaching consensus.   Limit: 20

Articles will be sent to registered participants a week in advance.  NOTE:  if you register less than 7 days before the class, please send an email to [email protected] to have the articles sent to you.
