Description

All around the world ancient people told fantastical tales of the dawn of time and the creation of the universe. What questions were they trying to answer? “Who made the world, and how?” Or were they asking different questions – questions much closer to home, like, “What am I, and what is my place in the cosmos?” Using Joseph Campbell’s four functions of myth, we’ll closely read, analyze, and discuss the creation stories in both Genesis and the Mayan Popul Vuh, looking for insights not into the literal origin of the universe, but into the secrets of our own essential nature and nature of reality itself. 60 minute presentation, 30 minute Q&A.
