Description

The way people age and confront the aging process is influenced by many factors. In the individual life history, past experiences and cultural contexts are intertwined. Actors in the person’s history and social context such as parents, siblings, teachers, neighbors, friends, spouses, co-workers contribute to well-being and personal development or interfere with them. The historical circumstances of a particular cohort, including cultural changes and technological innovations, individual and collective health issues and available treatments present opportunities or create barriers throughout the life span. Material circumstances interact with psychological forces in each individual life.  In this presentation we will focus on how these dynamics influence the individual process of aging and the aging process in societies.
