Description

This presentation will be based on my memoir of childhood and adolescence recently published under the same title. The memoir recreates a world that does not exist any longer: Cuba in the 1940s and 50s; a pre-revolutionary Cuba that remains mostly unknown. Stories about Cuba’s fraught history and political instability are interwoven with personal story in a web of history, family stories, analysis and memories. This is a narrative of a young person’s individual struggle for identity and independence against the background the country’s national struggle. Family photographs and site photographs illustrate the narrative. Reading of some excerpts will illuminate and give further details about the narrative.  If participants are interested, we might also discuss the process of the memoir creation during the Q & A. It is not necessary to have read the memoir in advance, but if you are interested in reading it, you can easily find it through local or national booksellers, where you can also find reviews and comments.
