World Fairs, expos, the Olympics and international sporting events all share a similar goal of friendly competition on a global stage. They are examples of the global competition for eyes, dollars and status that hold vast economic and political power and influence. While showcasing national achievements, cultural significance, scientific or industrial prowess they have maintained a western influence.
Since the world has shifted in multiple ways — societal, cultural, technological, and modular, the need exists to address how these events can include tomorrow’s priorities.
This lecture will highlight the history of these international gatherings and look at how they might change in the future
