Description
The cyanotype is a 19th century, camera-less alternative photographic process that is experiencing a vibrant resurgence among contemporary artists and photographers. Known for its distinctive blue tones, this historic “blueprint” process offers endless creative possibilities and can be combined with other art forms such as collage, textiles, painting, card making, and mixed-media artwork.
In this hands-on workshop, students will use pre-coated light-sensitive paper to create unique cyanotype photograms using botanical materials, lace, feathers, translucent plastics, and other flat objects. Through the power of sunlight, these objects will leave beautiful impressions on the paper, creating one-of-a-kind solar prints. No photography experience is required, just a willingness to experiment and create.
Supply List: San Diego Oasis will provide the paper. Students are encouraged to bring botanical materials from their gardens (leaves, flowers, and grasses), lace, shear fabrics, and feathers to create cyanotypes, feel free to bring colored pencils, watercolors and markers to embellish your prints.
