Description
The dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan in August 1945 ushered in the dawn of the nuclear age. This lecture will explore the evolving attitudes toward the atom and the atom bomb from 1945 to the 1960s. As you will see American attitudes toward the atom and atom bomb changed as the larger cold war evolved. We will also briefly examine how Hollywood initially handled the nuclear age from the mutant insect movies of the 1950s to more thoughtful films like The Day the Earth Stood Still.
