Description
Bittersweet is based on family items and photographs Kitty discovered after her mother passed away. She translated journal and recipes into English, tested all the dishes, and her husband photographed them. The documents include Kitty’s great-grandfather, Dr. Prosper Levy’s Prosper’s journal chronicling the advance of the Nazis between April and December 1940, and a notebook filled with his wife’s family recipes. Kitty published Prosper’s journal along with his wife Blanche’s recipes as a way to memorialize and breathe life back into a family so ruthlessly destroyed and to bear witness to her mother and grandmother’s hidden grief.
