Description
This presentation will look at the role Black Conquistadors, like Juan Garrido and others, played in the conquest and exploration of Spanish America. Topics covered will be the legacy of the Reconquista from Middle Spain, the story of El Cid as the crusading spirit of future Conquistadors, and evolution of race in Spanish colonial society. This often-overlooked part of history of the Spanish conquest of the Americas will show how Black Conquistadors were vital in the pacification and conquest of the “New World.”
