Description

Founded by Siddartha Gautama in northeastern India in the 5th century BCE, Buddhism is a philosophy that needs no religion. But following Buddha’s death, a religion quickly developed. Outside of its home in Asia, Buddhism is particularly associated with meditation and, in more recent years, with mindfulness. It is estimated that there are 535 million Buddhists worldwide – between 8 and 10% of the world’s population. In this lecture we will discuss Buddhism as a philosophy, and look at some of the art that has developed from the religion.
