This course introduces the concept of global justice focusing on three issues in international politics today: sovereignty, immigration and citizenship, and “just war.” Suggested readings include scholarly articles and news accounts of today’s wars in Europe and the Middle East, migration policies in the U.S. and Europe, and international humanitarian law and action.
Session I. Introduction to Global Justice. This class will discuss three central concepts that define international law and justice include the sovereign equality of states, respect of human rights, and upholding the “laws of war” during conflict. We will also examine the organizations of international law: the United Nations, the International Court of Justice, and the International Criminal Court.
