Description
America is a nation of stories. Every American has travelled through time and space, and each journey is a unique story. In this series, we share the journeys of our fellow Americans, whether around the neighborhood, across the country, or across the world as we explore what it means to be American in the third century of our democracy.
This chapter in the series “My American Story”, features Timur Berberoglu: Turkey, Italy, and the American Dream
Timur Berberoglu’s Turkish father and Italian mother met at the Turkish Embassy in Washington, DC. So Timur’s childhood vacations were divided between his Italian Catholic family and his equally loving Turkish clan. Timur moved to Los Angeles for college and law school, but never forgot his Italian or Turkish roots. In fact, at the ripe age of 38 he fulfilled his father’s dream of having his son serve in the Turkish army (a short stint) so Timur could maintain his Turkish citizenship and a connection to Turkey. Shortly after his mother died, he completed the circle and obtained his Italian citizenship as well. When not managing his busy legal practice, Mr. Berberoglu spends time with his Turkish, Italian, and US-born family.
