Description

Artist Richard Diebenkorn (1922–1993) grew up in San Francisco and came to prominence in postwar America. His early work of abstract landscapes were made mostly in New Mexico and Illinois. In the mid 1950’s his work took a dramatic turn. He created representational paintings (landscapes, figure studies, and still lifes) incorporating abstraction. In the last few decades of his life, Diebenkorn focused on large abstractions, creating his best known series, Ocean Park.
