Ever wonder how famous scientists and inventors got the ideas that propelled them to fame and fortune? How was it that Thomas Edison pricked his finger while working with a telephone and got the idea for the phonograph? How did Sir Alexander Fleming see circles in his cultures of bacteria and was intrigued enough to eventually discover penicillin? This lecture uses my own experiences with unexpected events, along with those from history, to explore these and other serendipitous events. You will learn that unexpected events are actually a common occurrence, how to develop the skills necessary to recognize when a potentially important, unexpected event has occurred, and how you can take advantage of these serendipitous events.
