Description

The human skeleton is remarkable!  It can change over the course of our life because bone is a living tissue. This is exemplified by Wolff’s Law–the law of bone transformation–which states that bone is laid down where it is needed and resorbed where it is not needed. This remodeling of bone takes place at the cellular level, where osteoclasts are responsible for resorbing bone tissue and osteoblasts simultaneously build bone tissue. During the life of an individual, bone is routinely subjected to compression, tension, and torsion, and is remodeled as a result of its mechanical function.
