Description
On May 22, 1820 at Bladensburg, Maryland, two naval officers faced one another on the field of honor. Commodore Stephen Decatur, the most famous hero of the Barbary Wars and the War of 1812 had been challenged to a duel by a former friend named James Barron. Barron had accused Decatur for the ruin of his naval career and only wanting the return of his honor. They faced each other over the barrels of two pistols. This was not an uncommon event in the early 19th century, but the two seconds had one thing in common: they both hated Stephen Decatur. Was it a duel or a coldly planned murder?
