Description

Stephen Sondheim once remarked that he enjoyed writing music more than writing lyrics. This program by Vincent Young focuses on the late Broadway composer-lyricist’s work mostly from an instrumental rather than a vocal perspective, including selections from his groundbreaking musicals, Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, and others. Excerpts will also be showcased from the composers whose work Sondheim analyzed when studying musical composition in general, from symphonies to show tunes.
