Description

In this presentation we discuss the Greek search for time and the remarkable Antikythera Mechanism, recovered from a shipwreck in 1901. Dating to about 100 BCE, this intricate device used more than 30 gears to predict eclipses, lunar phases, and celestial cycles. By examining Greek astronomy, mathematics, sundials, and water clocks, we discover how ancient scientists combined observation and engineering to create a machine that challenged modern assumptions about ancient technology.
