Description

The tragic events of January 6, 2021 have invoked comparisons to the only other attack on the Capitol, by the British in the War of 1812.   The riveting tale proves truth is stranger than fiction: In August 1814, British troops invaded the capital region and burned nearly all the public buildings in Washington, including the Capitol and White House.  Brunsman will describe the origins of this historic event and why it deserves to be remembered beyond its newfound relevance in 2021.
