Chickens were domesticated from wild jungle fowl in Southeast Asia about 10,000 years ago. They likely began congregating near human settlements to eat the seeds and
other food waste left by humans. The humans there noticed how quickly chickens converted their food into meat and eggs, and over time chickens became part of the culture. Chickens have been a domesticated animal for centuries, but it was only in the 20th century that industrialized chicken farming and breeding began.
