Description

Images and narratives of a goddess—a female representation of the divine or a powerful leader—can be found in ancient traditions the world over. The Great Goddess, a Divine Ancestress, may have been worshiped for tens of thousands of years during the Ice Age. The concept of an egalitarian society guided by strong female influence sprang up again in Mesopotamia, the first civilization to develop after the end of the Ice Age. This lecture uses archaeological finds, oral histories, and recorded legends to tell the story of an early goddess culture.
