Description
Long before fife-and-drum music led General George Washington’s forces to victory, military music was used on the battlefield to both summon troops and to inspire them on to battle. Franz Schubert wrote military marches and Beethoven wrote the Eroica Symphony, a military march. In the 18th century every British regiment had its own military band and John Philip Sousa popularized martial music in the United States. Our music man, Vincent Young, will play and discuss the various moods of the musical march.
