Description
This lecture will explore Maya Highland sites of Mesoamerica. Prof. Henry George will begin our visit with Joya de Ceren, a village in El Salvador that was covered with ash in CE 640 resulting in excellent preservation of organic remains. Then we will visit the spectacular cities of Copan in Honduras, Tikal and Yahxa in Guatemala, Lamanai in Belize, and Palenque, Bonampak, Yaxchitlan, and Tonina in Chiapas. Each of these cities is known for some major aspect of the Maya Civilization.
