Theodore Roosevelt was the youngest President, taking office when he was only 42. During his 61-year life he was a man of many hats, some of which will be discussed by Prof. Fred Bercovitch. Roosevelt was a Harvard University wrestler, Dakota cattle rancher, New York State Assemblyman and Governor, Assistant Secretary of the Navy, New York City Police Commissioner, U. S. Civil Service Commissioner, Honorary Vice President of the Boy Scouts and leader of Troop 39 [Oyster Bay], founder of the Bronx Zoo, big game hunter and conservationist, explorer of South America, and leader in establishing the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
