Description
After introducing contemporary U.S. and Chinese media images that demonstrate how the two countries view each other in 2025, this lecture will go back in time to examine important moments in China’s late imperial and early twentieth-century history that laid the foundation for current Chinese world views. The main topics to be covered include key Ming and Qing dynasty successes followed by China’s “century of humiliation” (1839-1949), as well as how both are viewed today in Xi Jinping’s China.
