Not only did Giuseppe Verdi compose more than 30 operas but as a member of the Italian parliament he worked to unify the country’s various principalities and kingdoms under one central government. Prof. Mehdi Sarram will play selections from some of Verdi’s most popular operas, such as Aida, Otello, and Regoletto, and discuss how his operas became powerful vehicles for his political beliefs.
