The term hominin refers to humans that are alive today and all of our early ancestors; in other words, all of the human members of the primate order. If you found a fossil, how would you distinguish a human fossil from a nonhuman primate fossil? Anatomical traits such as brain size and evidence of bipedalism can illuminate hominin origins, as well as changes in behavior such as tool use and hunting strategies.
