The lower atmosphere carries a diverse and dynamic pool of bacteria, archaea, fungi and viruses. Despite growing interest in this area, the atmospheric microbiome remains a poorly characterized component of the environment. Dr. Morris will describe recent pilot studies of urban atmospheric microbiology in Washington, DC, as well as in several African megacities, and the implications for human health and food security.
