Description
This lecture will explore the intersection of the French impressionist artist, Claude Monet, and the American Abstract Expressionist, Joan Mitchell; and the ways in which Monet and Mitchell engaged with the French landscape. Based on an exhibition at the St. Louis Art Museum, we will look at the connections, both in subject matter and technique, that Mitchell shared with Monet, including their similar compositional formats, vibrant color, and gestural brushwork.
